Candeo was the result of a project focusing on product-service systems and sustainability. The idea is to replace the widely popular (and polluting) butane-driven patio heaters with a product-service system providing patio heaters running on sustainable fuels such as charcoal produced under controlled circumstances. Besides that, the company takes care of the patio heaters by collecting them in periods when they’re not used as well as maintaining and repairing them to extend the product’s life. Besides delivering the charcoal and taking care of the heaters, Candeo also offers accessories for the activities surrounding the patio heaters, such as ecological vegetables and meat for the barbeque party.
The project included a complete redesign of the patio heaters as well as a thorough analysis of alternative fuels, the actor network, business-strategies and users.
