The “Save the Future” game was developed for the Technical Museum of Denmark as a tool for engaging the visiting kids in the exhibitions. The game is closely tied together with the physical context the user is moving around in. The game consists of a PDA running the game software, which is wirelessly communicating with the other PDAs as well as interactive parts of the exhibition. The participants work in groups based on the competencies of each participant, making sure that nobody will be able to “free-wheel” through the game.

The whole exhibition was redesigned as well as interactive characters were developed (e.g. an evil professor). The game requires the users to solve mysteries and thereby analyse different bits and pieces of information. The tasks are designed to engage all the participants, and it is therefore not possible to solve the game without cooperating as a group.

The game was refined through several iterations which included a lot of lo- and hi-fi prototyping as well as user evaluations. The picture shows the splash screen from the software proto.
